The Truth about Natural Hair Care

The Truth about Natural Hair Care

The term natural origin or naturally derived is defined as a derivative extracted from a natural material, for instance a plant. The term synthetic origin usually means prepared artificially via chemical synthesis in a laboratory and not from natural source. Given the choice which would you choose? Here's why we believe natural is best and why Holistic Hair dedicates extensive time and research into developing natural origin hair care products.

Plants have been used since humans first inhabited the earth, as a food and as a medicine. Humans have relied on plants to heal ailments for centuries and they were our sole remedy until the arrival of the pharmaceutical companies. Today, 40 per cent of all drugs and 80 per cent of the world's population still depends on medicines derived from plants. Even though there is not a lot of specific research to explain the exact bio-chemical science proving plant medicines are effective, there is a lot of empirical evidence from around the world to validate they do work.

The active ingredients of plants are also referred to as phytochemicals. Plants produce these chemicals to protect themselves but research demonstrates they can also protect humans against diseases. Some of the well-known phytochemicals are lycopene in tomatoes, isoflavones in soy, flavanones found in citrus fruit, chlorophyll found in plants that are green, alkaloids found in green tea and the list goes on. As plants are complex structures of bioactive compounds, their true healing powers are difficult to synthesise in a laboratory and this is why you will be hard pressed to beat the power of a living plant and its active properties. It is important to mention at this point that not everything in nature is safe, it takes knowledge & expertise to understand what to use and the science behind formulating natural products that offer solutions that consumers have come to expect.
